Where to buy chickens in the UK

If you want to buy a chicken (or some chickens) in the UK then the best idea that I can think of is to have a quick look around your local area and try to find a farm, local breeders or just someone who has just hatched a few chicks. Depending on breed and age of the chicken, I have seen prices than range from free to £25 with the average price per chicken between somewhere around the £10 to £15 range.

I’ve just performed a quick Google research and a few websites that let their users post information and images about different breeds of chickens that they have for sale throughout the UK. I think that this is a useful service and will consider implementing it on a2citychickens if I see the growing demand for this type of service. What do you think? Do you see a need to advertise the sale of chickens online as opposed to just nipping down to your local breeder or farm to see if they have any chickens available?

Remember, if you’re new to raising chickens then don’t forget to study our guides on looking after chickens and building or sourcing a hen hutch.

Chicken Coops

Poultry housing is not at all expensive to build yourself. Making a coop for your chickens is an ultimately satisfying practice that will eventually bring you some lovely free range eggs.

Chicken coop plans can be comprehensively followed if you are competent at DIY (do it yourself). So if you would prefer to raise your own chickens. For your chickens to lay eggs on a regular basis and stay health you must follow a few rules when building a chicken hutch in your backyard. One pertinent rule for building your own chicken coop is to make sure that your chicken coop is located in an area that is both safe for the chickens and far enough away from your neighbours. The legislation regarding this may vary depending on your geographical location.
